Way back in 1905, Charles Beckman and 14 like-minded investors founded the Red Wing Shoe Company. Beckman had previously opened a shoe store in 1883, inspired by a desire to sell only "truly good shoes." The store thrived, but Charles still believed good shoes were too hard to find, so he decided to become a shoemaker himself.
Within 10 years, the company was producing more than 200,000 pairs of boots per year and was the primary company manufacturing footwear for American soldiers fighting in World War I & II. To this day they are known for their high quality leather boots, still handmade in the USA.
